An Upper West Side Remodel

New York, NY
Designer at Le Whit
Completed and photographed in 2024

Nestled in a street right off of Central Park, this family apartment on the Upper West Side blends rich history with modern reinvention in its remodel. Le Whit used the existing form, a strong material palette, and detail strategies that cater to small spaces to transform the apartment into a seamless fusion of past and present.

The renovation preserved the apartment’s original structure while weaving in new traditions for its occupants. Finding boundaries in the existing layout created functional spaces to host, work, play, and rest. A refreshed material palette then redefined these areas, paying homage to the apartment’s history while giving each space a contemporary edge. Detailed strategies created moments of play all while optimizing the utility of the space, its storage, and elements of display. In this transformed second-generation home, the story of a family unfolds—constantly evolving, just like the space itself.
